Trust & Safety at StayCanadian

StayCanadian is a discovery platform. We connect travellers with hosts who manage their own properties and direct booking experiences. Understanding how that works — and what it means for your safety — is important.

How StayCanadian works

StayCanadian lists properties offered by independent hosts. We are not an OTA. We do not own, manage, inspect, or operate any property on the platform. We do not process payments or sit between you and your host at any point in the booking.

When you find a property on StayCanadian, you book directly with the host through their own website or booking system.

What we verify — and what we don't

We perform administrative checks to confirm that hosts have submitted their listing information and that a direct booking URL exists. This is an intake process, not a safety inspection.

Verification does not mean:

  • The property has been physically inspected
  • The host has been background-checked
  • The listing details have been independently confirmed
  • The property meets any particular standard of quality or safety

You are responsible for evaluating whether a property is right for you before booking.

Your responsibility as a guest

Before booking any stay, we encourage you to:

  • Read the host's listing carefully, including house rules and cancellation policies
  • Contact the host directly if you have questions about the property
  • Confirm availability and pricing through the host's booking system
  • Review any guest agreement or rental contract provided by the host
  • Check that the property address and details match what you expect

If something feels off, trust your instincts and reach out to the host before committing.

Your responsibility as a host

Hosts on StayCanadian are solely responsible for:

  • The accuracy of all listing information, photos, and pricing
  • Compliance with local STR regulations, municipal bylaws, and strata or HOA rules
  • Maintaining a property that meets applicable health and safety standards
  • Communicating clearly and honestly with guests
  • Handling all aspects of the booking, payment, and guest experience

By listing on StayCanadian, you confirm that you have the right to offer the property for short-term rental and that your listing complies with applicable laws.

Safety tips for travellers

  • Research the area. Look up the neighbourhood before you arrive. Know where the nearest hospital, pharmacy, and emergency services are.
  • Confirm check-in details in advance. Connect with your host before arrival to confirm access instructions, parking, and emergency contacts.
  • Know the property's safety features. Ask your host about smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
  • Travel insurance. StayCanadian does not provide travel insurance. Consider purchasing a policy that covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and personal property.
  • Emergency situations. If you face an emergency during your stay, call 911. For non-emergency property issues, contact your host directly.

Reporting a concern

If you have a concern about a listing — including suspected inaccurate information, a property that doesn't match its description, or conduct by a host that feels unsafe — contact us at support@staycanadian.ca.

We take reports seriously. While we cannot intervene in the booking relationship between a guest and host, we may take action on a listing, including removal, if we determine it violates our policies.

Limitations of StayCanadian's role

StayCanadian provides the platform as-is. We are not liable for the condition, safety, or suitability of any listed property, for any loss or harm arising from a stay, or for any dispute between a guest and host. Our full liability terms are set out in our Terms & Conditions.
