On the Main Run

This is the real thing rather than the marketing version of it. Sullivan Stone #37 sits on the Main Run at Kimberley Alpine Resort, so you put your boots on inside, ski to the base and the quad chair, and ski back at the end of the day. Nothing about the day involves a car. In summer the resort turns over to hiking and mountain biking, Trickle Creek golf is minutes away, and the Kimberley Nature Park trails start close by.

The main floor

Open-concept and built around a stone fireplace, with a large sectional sofa facing it and a dining area alongside. The kitchen is full-sized and stainless steel, stocked with utensils, pots and pans, a coffee maker, blender, crockpot, toaster, microwave and dishwasher. Air conditioning runs through the condo, which still puts it ahead of most Kootenay mountain rentals in July.

Sleeping

Twelve guests across three levels. Bedroom one has a king. Bedroom two has a twin-over-double bunk. Bedroom three has a queen. Bedroom four has a double-over-queen bunk. A double futon in the basement takes the twelfth guest. Two bunk rooms is what makes a group of this size actually work rather than just fit on paper.

Bathrooms

Three: a full ensuite on the upper level with a shower bath, a half bath on the main level, and a full bathroom on the lower level with a shower bath. All are stocked with towels, face cloths, toiletries and a hairdryer.

Outside

The deck carries a private hot tub with mountain views, a barbecue and outdoor furniture set up for eating outside. It faces the peaks, which is the point.

Practical

Contactless check-in with details sent by email, and the host available remotely through the stay. Free parking on the premises, though the strata enforces its parking rules and the host asks guests to follow them. Large modern washer and dryer with detergent supplied, fast Wi-Fi, cable TV, board games, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The home is professionally cleaned after every stay. Cleaning is billed separately and the host adds a hot tub fee at booking.
