On the hill

You wake up already on the mountain. SullivanStone sits directly on the Kimberley Alpine Resort ski hill beside the Main run, so you click in at the door, ski down to the base and the quad chair, and at the end of the day ski back to within a few steps of the deck. There is no shuttle and no parking scramble, and no reason not to come back at noon for a hot lunch instead of paying resort prices. In summer the same terrain becomes hiking and mountain-bike trails, and the Trickle Creek golf course is a few minutes down the hill.

The space

Over 1,500 square feet spread across three levels, which is what makes this work for two families rather than one. The kitchen is genuinely stocked - pots and pans, crockery, wine glasses, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, oven and stove - and opens onto a dining table and a large living area with plenty of soft seating and an indoor fireplace. Air conditioning runs throughout.

Sleeping

Three private bedrooms sleep eight. The upper-level primary has a king bed, mountain views, an ensuite bathroom and a desk. The lower level holds a separate queen bedroom, plus a second queen bedroom with a semi-private bonus room containing two twin beds and a bunk - the arrangement kids sort out among themselves. Beds are made up with high-quality linens, and extra pillows and blankets are in the closet.

Outside

The deck has a barbecue with utensils, outdoor seating, outdoor lighting and a private covered hot tub angled at the mountains. Covered matters here: you will use it in a snowstorm.

Practical

Contactless 24-hour check-in, a deadbolt and locks on the bedroom doors, free parking on the premises, a private entrance, a large modern washer and dryer with laundry pods and dryer sheets supplied, 250+ Mbps Wi-Fi, cable TV, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Stair gates, a high chair and children's books and toys are here for families with small kids. Cleaning is billed separately and the host adds a hot tub fee at booking.
