At the base

You are at the very bottom of Kimberley Alpine Resort, two minutes' walk from the Express Quad and steps from the base restaurants and bars. You walk up in the morning and ski back to the door at the end of the day, which is the arrangement most people actually want - no shuttle, no parking, and somewhere to eat that does not involve driving. Trickle Creek golf, the Nordic trails and over 50 km of mountain-bike trails in the largest municipal park in BC are all close.

Two houses in one

This is the point of the place. The townhouse is split into two fully equipped halves - two kitchens, two living rooms - so two families can eat, watch and go to bed on their own schedules and still be under one roof. Then all five bedrooms have their own full ensuite bathroom, which is what turns a group of twelve from a logistics problem into a holiday.

Sleeping

Twelve guests. Bedroom one has a twin-over-double bunk. Bedrooms two, three and four each have a queen. The loft bedroom has a double. A double sofa bed in the living room takes the last two. High-quality linens throughout.

The hot tubs

Two private outdoor hot tubs, both belonging to the townhouse rather than a shared clubhouse. With a group this size that matters more than it sounds - nobody waits.

Gear

A heated double garage takes skis, boards, bikes and wet boots, and holds a ping pong table with equipment for the afternoon the weather turns.

Practical

Keypad contactless entry. Free parking. Washer and dryer, dishwasher, fireplace, fast Wi-Fi, TVs, board games, stair gates and a high chair for small children, and a carbon monoxide detector.

Things to know before you book

This is a three-floor townhouse with stairs throughout and the host is clear that it may not suit guests with mobility challenges. No pets, no smoking and no parties. Quiet hours run 10pm to 7am and the house has a Minut monitor that measures decibel levels only - it does not record conversations. Cleaning is billed separately and the host adds a hot tub fee at booking.
